Swimming Lessons

Serving the Greater East Bay including San Leandro, Castro Valley, Hayward, Oakland, and San Lorenzo, CA.

Intermediate swimmers require practice, yes, but they also require purpose and more advanced technique. At The Swim Academy, the intermediate classes are for those who are comfortable in the water, swimming on their own, still learning the different strokes. The biggest difference is the pacing of the classes are higher than the beginners classes.

Our instructors walk swimmers through this intermediate stage with concentrated lessons in building stroke skills, breathing, endurance, and body management. We ease back at times when it benefits them most and challenge them at the proper moment. Each lesson is structured to get them moving forward with confidence.

Benefits of Intermediate Swimming Lessons

Intermediate lessons assist swimmers in bridging basic skills to strong, dependable technique. This is where endurance is built, where the strokes are refined, and where swimming with less effort and greater control is learned.

We teach freestyle, backstroke, and introduce breaststroke and butterfly as a function of how comfortable each individual is. Swimmers practice regular breathing, effective kicking, and improved alignment in the water. Drills are incorporated that smooth out the swimming, rather than making it faster. This is the level at which swimmers develop the endurance and concentration necessary to persevere. This is where improvement actually becomes evident.

Yes. Lessons at this level are demanding. We employ games, drills, and goal-setting as means to keep swimmers motivated as they progress.
